Research in Constitutional Law and Municipal Law, Sports Law is led by Prof. S.A. Avakiyan, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Constitutional and Municipal Law Chair, Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation, head of the Master Program "Constitutional and Municipal Law".

Studies in the area of International Public Law, international arbitration, WTO-related issues are carried out under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. A.S. Ispolinov, Cand. Sc. (Law), Chairholder, International Law Chair. Instructors of the chair have practical experience. From 2014 to 2017, Prof. V.V. Golitsyn was President of the UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Academic research in Land Law and Environmental Law is supervised by Prof. A.K. Golichenkov, Doctor of Law, Dean of the Law School (Moscow State University), Chairholder, Chair of Environmental Law and Land Law, Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation, and is performed by the chair’s staff members: Prof. G.A. Volkov, Doctor of Law; Prof. I.A. Ignatiyeva, Doctor of Law; Prof. O.I. Krassov, Doctor of Law; Prof. T.V. Petrova, Doctor of Law, and others.

Issues of Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure are investigated under the leadership of Prof. A.P. Alekhin, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Administrative Law Chair.

Investigations in the area of Tax Law and Financial Law are managed by Assoc. Prof. M.F. Ivlieva, Cand. Sc. (Law), Chairholder, Financial Law Chair, and involve the chair’s staff members: Assoc. Prof. D.M. Schekin, Cand. Sc. (Law), and others.

Problems of Business Law are in the focus of attention of the following scholars: Prof. E.P. Gubin, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Business Law Chair, Meritorious Jurist of the Russian Federation; Assoc. Prof. K.V. Kichik, Cand. Sc. (Law), and others. Since 2008, Assoc. Prof. A.E. Molotnikov, Cand. Sc. (Law), has been an academic member of the European Corporate Governance Institute.

Academic studies in Civil Law are supervised by Prof. E.A. Sukhanov, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Civil Law Chair, Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation, head of the Master Program “Master of Private Law.” In 2013, Prof. E.A. Sukhanov was elected member of the Academy of European Private Lawyers (Pavia, Italy), and of the Austrian-Russian Legal Society (Vienna, Austria). In 2011, Prof. E.A. Sukhanov was elected Honorable Member of the Society of German-Russian Economic Law (Hamburg, Germany). He was also a member of a working group to draft and to reform the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (1994—2016).

Issues of International Private Law are tackled by Assoc. Prof. A.V. Asoskov, Doctor of Law, professor of the Civil Law Chair.

Academic research in Corporate Law is led by Prof. I.S. Shitkina, Doctor of Law, professor of the Business Law Chair, head of the Master Program “Corporate Law,” and she is assisted in that pursuit by N.V. Kozlova, Doctor of Law, professor of the Civil Law Chair; D.V. Lomakin, Doctor of Law, professor of the Civil Law Chair; S.Yu. Filippova, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Business Law Chair, and others.

Matters of Contractual Law and Commercial Law are studied by the staff of the Chair of Commercial Law and Basics of Legal Method, namely by Assoc. Prof. E.A. Abrosimova, Doctor of Law, Chairholder; Prof. B.I. Puginsky, Doctor of Law; Prof. V.A. Belov, Doctor of Law; Prof. I.V. Tsvetkov, Doctor of Law, and others.

S.A. Karelina, Doctor of Law, professor of the Business Law Chair, head of the Master Program in bankruptcy, is at the helm of inquiries into bankruptcy of legal entities and private individuals.

Legal regulation of investment activities is explored by A.V. Belitskaya, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Business Law Chair.

Investigations in Competition Law and improvement of antirust legislation are carried out by Assoc. Prof. S.A. Paraschuk, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Business Law Chair, head of the Master Program "Competition Law"; Prof. A.N. Varlamova, Doctor of Law, professor of the Chair of Commercial Law and Basics of Legal Method.

Transport Law is the object of works by Assoc. Prof. V.A. Vaipan, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Business Law Chair.

Studies in legal support of the energy sector development are directed by Assoc. Prof. P.G. Lakhno, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Business Law Chair.

Prof. I.A. Zenin, Doctor of Law, professor of the Civil Law Chair, devotes his scholarly efforts to improvement of legislation on intellectual property. Prof. I.A. Zenin is an authoritative specialist, well-known in Russia and abroad. In 1982, he was elected member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) (Geneva, Switzerland). On the back of the annual competition “Choices of Russia’s University” (2016), Prof. I.A. Zenin’s university textbooks were recognized best among textbooks in Civil Law published in 2016.

Research in Information Law is the area of study of Prof. V.A. Severin, Doctor of Law, professor of the Commercial Law Chair.

Issues of Legal Informatics and Cybernetics are studied under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. A.A. Kosovets, Cand. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Head of the Legal Informatics and Cybernetics Laboratory.

Family Law is the object of studies of P.L. Polyansky, Doctor of Law, associate professor of the History of State and Law Chair; O.A. Dyuzheva, senior fellow of the Civil Law Chair. O.A. Dyuzheva is a renowned authority in the academic community, and for a long time she served Vice President of the International Society of Family Law.

Research work in Theory of State and Law, Sociology and Philosophy of Law is led by Prof. M.N. Marchenko, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Chair of Theory of State and Law and Political Science, Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation.

Prof. V.A. Tomsinov, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, History of State and Law Chair, is at the head of studies in History of State and Law.

Prof. A.M. Kurennoy, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Labor Law, is the lead scholar in the area of Labor Law.

Prof. E.E. Machulskaya, Doctor of Law, is in the forefront of research in Social Security Law. From 2010, Prof. E.E. Machulskaya has been a member of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (International Labor Organization), and since 2011, she has been a member of the European Committee of Social Rights (Council of Europe). On the back of the annual competition "Choices of Russia’s University" (2016), Prof. E.E. Machulskaya’s textbook for universities was acknowledged best among textbooks in Social Security Law issued in 2016.

Problems of Litigation and Arbitration are at the core of the activities of the Litigation Chair led by Prof. M.K. Treushnikov, the Chairholder. In that area, academic papers of the Litigation Chair staff members are widely known, including those of Prof. E.A. Borisova, Doctor of Law; Prof. E.V. Kudryavtseva, Doctor of Law; Prof. D.Ya. Maleshin, Doctor of Law; Prof. V.V. Molchanov, Doctor of Law; Prof. V.M. Sherstyuk, Doctor of Law.

Issues of Criminal Law are investigated at the Criminal Law Chair, by its staff members, such as Prof. V.S. Komissarov, Doctor of Law, Chairholder; Prof. L.V. Brusnitsyn, Doctor of Law; Prof. N.E. Krylova, Doctor of Law; Prof. V.I. Seliverstov, Doctor of Law; Prof. A.V. Serebrennikova, Doctor of Law; Prof. P.S. Yani, Doctor of Law, and others.

Studies in the area of Criminal Procedure are supervised by Prof. L.V. Golovko, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Chair of Criminal Procedure, Justice and Supervision by Public Prosecutor. Since 2008, Prof. L.V. Golovko has been a member of the International Association of Penal Law, and since 2010, he has been a member of the International Committee of Francophone Criminal Lawyers (Comité International des Pénalistes Francophones, CIPF).

Forensic Science is the focal point of the research guided by Prof. I.V. Aleksandrov, Doctor of Law, Chairholder, Forensic Science Law Chair; Prof. N.P. Yablokov, Doctor of Law, Meritorious Scientist of the Russian Federation, and others. On the back of the annual competition "Choices of Russia’s University" (2016), Prof. N.P. Yablokov’s university textbook was pronounced best among textbooks in Forensic Science released in 2016.

Professional Ethics is examined by Assoc. Prof. T.K. Andreyeva, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the Litigation Chair; Assoc. Prof. G.M. Davidyan, Cand. Sc. (Law), associate professor of the History of State and Law Chair.

Challenges faced by Linguistics and Professional Translation are explored under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. T.I. Tarasova, Chairholder, Chair of Foreign Languages.
